How we appraise your vehicle?
First Step: Bring your vehicle to Ed Bozarth.
When you arrive at our dealership you will be greeted by a professional hostess to make you feel welcome at our place of business. Please let the dealership hostess know that you are at the dealership to have your vehicle appraised. You will be offered a bottle of water or a cup of coffee while you wait.
Second Step: An experienced onsite automotive appraiser will perform a full vehicle inspection on your vehicle at no additional charge. Following a full visual inspection of your vehicle we will take it for a test drive to inspect to mechanical performance of the vehicle.
In appraising your vehicle value we take into account may factors. Below is a partial list of those factors:
- Interior and exterior condition—excessive wear and tear may affect your car's appraisal offer.
- Mileage/age—excessive miles may lower your offer and narrow its resale market.
- Paint and body for paint lines, overspray, body putty, dents, scratches, and other signs of previous body repair. Frame damage
will also affect your offer because it shows your car has been in a serious accident. At CarMax, we don't resell frame-damaged vehicles
to our customers. These vehicles are sold at wholesale auctions to other dealers.
A Specialist will assist you with the vehicle appraisal process. He or she will also ask you a series of 15 questions that will assist the appraiser in assessing the actual vehicle value. Click here to download a copy of our dealership evaluation form.
Third Step: A professionally trained specialist will review your vehicle trade allowance or purchase option with you. This vehicle specialist will itemize a price, called Trade Value, we would pay for your vehicle if the vehicle required no additional
reconditioning. Additionally, you will be provided a Reconditioning Allowance which summarizes the expenses we anticipate incurring to bring your vehicle into a marketable condition. Finally, you will be presented with a Trade Allowance figure which is the Trade Value of the Vehicle net of the Reconditioning Expense.
Fourth Step: Finalize the transaction by executing documents required to trade in your vehicle or to sell your vehicle to the dealership. This process typically takes from 15 minutes to 1 hour.

If Selling your Vehicle and not Trading-In your Vehicle:
Please understand if you are selling your vehicle and not trading the vehicle you will be paid after the dealership is able to have all liens and encumbrances removed from the vehicle title and after the title are formally perfected in the name of the dealership. This process typically takes two business weeks. The dealership will take all reasonable steps to speed this process, but please be aware that this does take time and is not immediate.
As you will note by reviewing our vehicle valuation form we take into account factors such as book value and the value of the optional equipment on your vehicle. Additionally we note the needed reconditioning costs that we will need to spend on your vehicle. These costs will be fully itemized for your review.
